North Tahoe Public Utility District announces change in parking collection strategies and the removal of the pay station system
Kings Beach, CA – The North Tahoe Public Utility District has announced that effective immediately the District is ceasing use of the automated parking system.  The system was installed and due to continued operational and system performance issues which have not been successfully resolved, the system was never accepted.
The District entered into an agreement for the design and installation of a turnkey parking pay station solution for Kings Beach State Recreation Area and the North Tahoe Regional Park.  The purpose of this automated system was to improve revenue collection at both facilities and to reduce District operating costs.  This parking pay station system has proven that an automated parking system can significantly improve revenue collection; therefore, the District will continue to pursue installation of an appropriate parking pay system.
The District appreciates the patience and understanding of our residents and parking lot customers during the installation and testing of the parking pay station installation.  We regret that has not worked in a reliable and consistent manner.
Effectively immediately, the Kings Beach State Recreation Area will return to a staffed kiosk and a voluntary iron ranger fee collection system when no staff is present.  As a result of this change, the variable rate structure will no longer be in effect.  The new daily rate is a flat fee of $8.00 per entry and a flat fee of $5.00 after 5 PM.  Those showing an NTPUD Resident card or vehicle sticker will pay a flat $5.00 daily rate and parking will be free for NTPUD residents after 5 PM.  Only cash will be accepted.
The North Tahoe Regional Park (NTRP) will also return to a voluntary iron ranger payment system supplemented by limited staffing at the gate to collect the entry fee.  The NTRP entry fee remains at $3.00 and is free to NTPUD residents with resident card or vehicle sticker.  Again, only cash payment will be accepted by kiosk staff.
One of the most used aspects of the pay station system was allowing people to pay their parking fees by credit card.  Unfortunately, with the change back to a pay on entry system, we will no longer be able to accept credit cards.  We apologize for this inconvenience.
The North Tahoe Public Utility District provides sewer service to the residents of Kings Beach, Tahoe Vista, Carnelian Bay, Cedar Flat and Agate Bay and water service to some of those communities.  The NTPUD owns, manages and maintains the North Tahoe Regional Park and the Tahoe Vista Recreation Area which provide active and passive recreation opportunities to residents and visitors.  In addition, the NTPUD owns and/or maintains all of the public beaches in the District including King Beach State Recreation Area, Coon Street Boat Launch and Secline Beach to name just a few.  The North Tahoe Community Conference Center in downtown Kings Beach is also owned and managed by the NTPUD.

Volunteers Needed to Help Finish the Disc Golf Course at the North Tahoe Regional Park

On Saturday, April 29, 2007 local high school junior Brian Rienstra will be working to complete his Eagle Scout Project with the help of his troop, Tahoe City Boy Scout Troop 266.  His community service project is to help put the finishing touches on the first 9 holes of the Disc Golf Course at the North Tahoe Regional Park.  Brian and his troop are looking for volunteers to come and help with this project.  The baskets are in and the tees are nearly complete; all that is left is to build trails to the tees and baskets and put in signs.  The work day is scheduled for April 29, 2007 to complete the trails and signs.
Volunteers will help rake the trails, clear brush and debris, and put in sign posts.  Volunteers will meet at 9 AM in the upper parking lot at the North Tahoe Regional Park and should come prepared with work clothes, gloves and sunscreen.  A hamburger BBQ lunch will be provided at the Ramada Picnic Area in the Park.  The food for the BBQ has been generously donated by the Kings Beach Safeway.  Lunch will be served around noon and afterwards we will finish working or play a round of disc golf if we finish the work in the morning.
An Eagle Scout Community Service Project is the final requirement towards earning Eagle, the highest rank in Scouting. An Eagle Scout Project demonstrates the Scout’s leadership skills. It shows the Scout’s commitment to helping his community through volunteer service. The project must be a substantial help the Scout’s local community.
